Cities such as Athens in Greece and Paris in France are known for being pricey however, there are many ways which you can save more during your trip and still enjoy even these pricier and more exotic cities when you travel. Be creative in your accommodations – Though most of us will simply choose hotels and motels downtown for the simplicity of it and despite the cost, being a little creative and flexible in your accommodations can save you hundreds. Getting a little off the beaten patch, considering different types of accommodations including camping, B & B’s and even RV’s are fun and easy ways to save a lot during your vacation.
Watch where and when you eat – Skip the “touristy” restaurant and choose to eat larger meals at lunch rather than dinner and you can save tons when you travel.
Check out the off season – Not only will you likely save time, but will save money as well. Certain tourist areas will charge upwards of 50% more on aspects of travel during the popular travel times. If you prefer some of the aspects of travel in peak seasons, consider the shoulder season as well as you can still save plenty of money as well.
Use the ATM – Always a great idea when traveling abroad, banks and atms will always offer you the best exchange rates. If you make sure to get enough money so that you don’t have to withdraw frequently, you can save plenty by using an atm.
Know the fees before you go and budget for them. – One of the worst parts of travel is arriving back home to more debt than you expected simply because you didn’t budget accordingly. Plan for fees and other aspects of your trip and stay within your budget, you will be glad you did.
