Spring break is here. Millions of travelers both young and old are packing up and heading out to destinations around the globe to get away from the cold and blustery parts of the world and into the sun. While spring break can be a great time to travel and a great trip away, some people, take the word vacation too far. Although you need to have fun, it is important that as with anything, you are cautious and maintain your safety as well as making sure too have fun. There are many issues relating to your health that you need to be aware of before you leave on your spring break. From preparations to ways you can maintain your health, take advantage of these tips to help you.
Before you go
Make sure you get any vaccinations which may be required before you travel abroad. If you are unsure if any are required for your destination, make sure you find out before you go. Not only will it help you stay healthy, but some places require them for entry.
Pack all medications and products for your safety. This includes any prescriptions that you take in addition to items including sunscreen, aloe vera and bug spray.
Know where the hospital and consulate are when traveling in a foreign country.
When You Travel
Avoid over imbibing in alcohol. Not only does it lead to dehydration, but it will also make you be less concerned with your surroundings. It may be spring break, but it can also be dangerous. You will be in an area that you are not familiar with and must be vigilant to maintain your safety.
If you are in a foreign country, make sure you know the safety of the water. Some countries do not have stringent rules regarding the water. If there is any question as to its safety, better be safe then sorry and drink only bottled water.
Get plenty of rest. An easy way to get sick in life is to not get enough rest. Make sure that you take time to take a rest.
Try to eat foods you are used to. Your stomach is already extra sensitive when you travel. Add in the fact that you are eating foods that your stomach is not used to and you may be in for an ache. Make sure you eat regular foods and help keep your stomach settled.
Never travel alone. Pay attention to your surroundings and use the buddy system. Make sure you remember that you are the first line of defense in your own safety. Do your part to ensure a safe journey and make the most of your spring break!
