How to Pack for Vacation

Posted on 08.03.12

Your vacation is no doubt just around the corner. You have been waiting a long time to finally go, and you are so ready to just relax and have as much fun as possible; however, you have no idea what to pack.

Vacation packing can be almost as stressful as the actual planning of the vacation itself, making it one of the most common complaints about travel today. It doesn’t have to be this way, though. As long as you are organized, focused, and do not wait until the last minute, you are sure to have plenty of time to pack and be sure that you have not forgotten anything.

One of the best ways to pack for your vacation is to pack in categories.

  • You can begin in your bathroom by making a list of all the toiletries you will require on your trip, such as shampoo, conditioner, and tooth brushing supplies. If you want to pack a little lighter, just remember that the majority of hotels provide all of these items and if you don’t mind sample sizes, it is just as easy to simply use the hotel’s products rather than spending your time packing your own. This will also leave extra room for souvenirs, just in case.
  • Next, make a list all of your electronics that you plan on bringing and put all of their chargers in a ziplock bag as to avoid damaging them. If you are vacationing in a different country, you may want to pack converters or adapters, as well, as many times power supplies are not the same, and you don’t want to be half way around the world and have no way to read your Kindle.
  • Make a list of all the clothing you will require. Consider what you will be doing as well as the weather during this time of the year as well.

If you pack in this way, you can probably fit everything you need into one or two suitcases. This can easily be achieved by laying your clothing flat rather than folding it. Rolling items to stick in the corners is also a good idea to keep things from sliding and can also save space.

  • Finally, don’t forget to pack patience and your sense of humor. This will make your vacation so much more peaceful if you don’t let the little things get to you, such as the man that took the last sausage at breakfast this morning. Being able to laugh at these situations will give your vacation a much needed lift. Pack as light as possible, and stay focused on positive things. Your vacation will be the best time you ever had if you stick to this plan.
