Festivals In England

Posted on 09.26.12

The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds in England. The events take place simultaneously on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend. The Reading Festival is held at Little John’s Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near the Caversham Bridge. The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of an historic house. Campsites are available at both sites and weekend tickets include camping. Day tickets are also sold. The Reading Festival, the original and senior leg of the two, is the world’s oldest popular music festival still in existence.  In the twin-site era, rock, alternative, indie, punk and metal have tended to dominate.

Leeds 190 miles north-northwest of central London, the central area of Leeds is located on the River Aire in a narrow section of the Aire Valley, which is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines. Of course if you are here for the festival you most definitely have to patron one of the local pubs.  Whitelocks pub was formally the Turks Head and Slip Inn, it dates back to 1715. It was rebuilt in 1866 with very few changes since then. It is a must see pub on the magical traditional pub. The Ship is a traditional pub located in one of the old courts, an alley way, off Leeds main street Briggate. The Pack Horse is a traditional pub. It is formally the Nags Head, which dates back to 1615, and probably the oldest pub in Leeds. The Pack Horse has a small outside drinking area with tables and seats in the courtyard.

Reading is a large town in the county of Berkshire, England. It is located 36 miles west of central London.  Reading boasts as wide a range of pubs and bars as any drinker could wish for. Within the Borough there are well in excess of 100 licensed establishments in a huge variety of styles, from mega modern wine bars and cafe bars  to new-style and traditional public houses. So whether you are a beer or lager drinker, a real ale expert, a connoisseur of wines or someone who prefers to try the latest trendy cocktails, Reading has something to offer you. And with so much competition, prices are keen, watch out for Happy Hours and other promotional deals. Cheers.

England is rich in history and is also filled with amazing activities and events throughout the year. Whether music or culture is your thing, find out what is going on when you visit and explore the unique events in England with Tradewinds Vacations Club.
