Before you leave on your next vacation, consider the following tips and advice to help you avoid issues and complaints. Tradewinds Vacations welcomes you to review tips and advice on travel and travel complaints to help you make the most of your time and money when you travel.
Just the Facts
Entering A Foreign Country – Though you may believe that just having a passport is enough for getting into and out of foreign countries, you may be surprised if you are not aware of the specifics. Passports are valid for a specific period of time, ten and five years depending on the specific type of passport and age of the traveler. When traveling to countries outside of the United States, many of these countries will require not only a valid passport, but a passport which is valid from 3 to 6 months after the current date or date of departure depending on the destination. In addition, many countries may also require a certain number of blank visa pages as well in order to enter. Be sure that your passport is good for at least 6 additional months before you travel and that you have extra visa pages as well. You may also be turned away if your passport is damaged, so be sure it is in good repair as well.
Hotel Room Safes – While many people consider hotel room safes to be the safest place to store their important documents and extra money while traveling, many may be surprised how unsafe these safes actually are. Instead of leaving things like valuables up to chance, know the ways you can better be prepared and in cases such as this consider other safety measures.
Cell Phones – You may think you know the facts regarding your cell phone and charges associated with its use, but what if you are traveling by cruise ship? While you may be able to get cell service on the open ocean, you may be burdened with fees you may not even consider till it is too late. Consider using a disposable phone with prepaid phone cards instead to avoid being surprised too late.
Credit Cards – If you plan on using a credit card while traveling abroad, there are many issues you need to be aware of before you go to avoid problems and complaints later on. For example, many credit cards will let you use them outside the U.S. but will charge an international usage fee. Know the rules regarding using your card outside the U.S. before you use it. In addition, many countries are switching to a different protection system referred to as a chip and pin system. Unfortunately the U.S. is not using this and as such our cards may not work abroad.
